Access the NIC
The imaging center is on the second floor of Morton and Searle Buildings of the Feinberg School of Medicine. It is part of the 3025 sq. ft space of the Cell Imaging Facility. The 24-hr access to the facility is through Northwestern Wildcard ID. Non-NU users can also access any of the 16-room during regular office hours, but with prior appointment with one of the facility staff.
Detailed direction to get to the Nikon Imaging Center can be found in the link below.
Training for the independent use of instruments in the facility is available by appointment only and depends upon instrument availability. Users will be required to understand the basic operation procedures for any microscopes they intend to use. Before using any laser-based instrument, users must take the online laser safety course administared by the NU Office for Research Safety. With Northwestern netID, one can directly register for the course.
New users should also consult with Teng-Leong Chew to discuss their experimental needs, then complete the following application form and e-mail it back to one of the facility staff (see contact). The facility staff will then schedule training session with you ASAP.
Northwestern University Core Facilities (NUCore) Online Reservation System
The NUCore System is a university-wide online reservation and billing system. Hourly charges for instrument use at the Nikon Imaging Center will be automatically billed according to the time scheduled on NUCore. If you are an authorized user, you can access NUCore here. First time users of the Nikon Imaging Center are required to contact facility staff to discuss your imaging need. We will authorize new users to NUCore only AFTER the initial discussion and a training time has been scheduled.
